Workshops

I run the following workshops periodically given levels of demand. Please get in touch if you’d be interested in attending any of the following. They can also be adapted to run in nurseries/pre schools either for staff or parents!

The workshops are small group interactive sessions with between 3 and 10 participants covering a range of topics, such as:-

✅ Early Language Development – milestones for all areas of communication (including attention, play, social skills, understanding and talking), how children acquire language, and ways to support your child at home including Makaton, visuals and ‘Special Time’

✅ Social Communication – information and advice for parents whose children are undergoing a social communication assessment or who have been diagnosed with autism

✅ Speech Sound Acquisition – typical and atypical pronunciation errors and how to help

✅ Makaton – an introductory course into why and how to use Makaton with some basic signs

✅ Bilingualism – dispelling the myths surrounding bi/multilingualism and looking at key ways to support your child’s language development at home

✅ Other – have an idea for a workshop not listed here? Let me know via my contact form!

My parent workshops are perfect if you are:-

🌟 Not sure if your child needs extra support and would like information about key milestones

🌟 Worried about your child’s communication development but not sure if you can commit to therapy right now

🌟 Concerned about long assessment and therapy waiting times

🌟 Want a taster of the support I can offer first

🌟 Want to meet other like-minded parents with similar concerns

I welcome any parents/carers of young children (between 1 and 5 years): you do not need to already be on my caseload or known to any speech and language service. Sessions vary in length but are usually between 1-3 hours depending on the topic/number of participants. Questions and discussion will be actively encouraged.

INTERESTED? Please register your interest via the contact form. Please include your preferred course(s) and time/day of the week.

Stay and Play for Under 2s

It was lovely to see so many of you at the ‘Happy Mama’ Stay and Play on Monday 9th May 2022. I had so much fun I forgot to take any pictures (oops)!! However I hope you found the leaflets and advice helpful. Remember, if you do have any concerns I offer a free 15 minute no obligation phone call so we can chat through your questions and concerns in more detail then.

Library Information Events

Thank you to everyone who came to both Information Events that were held at Huntingdon Library in the Spring. I loved meeting you all and hope you found the leaflets, advice and activity ideas helpful in supporting your little ones.

I couldn’t resist adding some pictures below:-

Some of the communication support ideas on show – key Makaton signs (top right), a visual timetable (bottom left) and a choice board (bottom right). Image also shows the communication pyramid (top left) which details all skills involved in successful communication. Those at the bottom of the pyramid are foundation skills that need to be firmly grasped before moving up the pyramid. Progression is supported by adult and child interaction.
